Dr. Gieger very much "fell into" veterinary medicine and anesthesiology after a series of serendipitous life choices; much of what she loves about the specialty relates to the variety of procedures, species, and circumstances it allows her to work with, as well as the ability to learn from and alongside individuals in other specialties and roles. 

"Medicine is a team sport" has become Sam's mantra, and she is excited to begin forging relationships with her new teammates at SAGE to provide quality patient care. 

Her professional interests include teaching, cardiorespiratory physiology and pathology, improving peri-anesthetic morbidity and mortality, and total intravenous anesthesia. 

Outside of work, she likes to spend time with her partner, Connor, and their guinea pig, Cleo. Dr. Gieger also enjoys hiking, playing board games, and learning how to crochet. As a former Midwesterner, she is also very much looking forward to taking advantage of new local food options and eating her way around the Bay.
