Dr. Kate Kim first moved to the Bay Area as a Cal undergraduate student studying mechanical engineering. (Go Bears!) She was a technician at an East Bay general practice veterinary hospital for several years prior to moving to England for vet school. She completed her veterinary degree at the RVC in 2021 and returned stateside to pursue further training. Following a rotating internship at VCA ASEC, she completed both surgery specialty internship and surgery residency at VCA Animal Specialty Group. Dr. Kim's research focuses on the unique physiology of fractures in toy-breed dogs and the role of external coaptation following fracture repair. During vet school, she also published research on "Demography, disorders and mortality of pet hamsters" in the Journal of Small Animal Practice.

Dr. Kim enjoys all aspects of soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, particularly trauma, emergency, minimally invasive, and orthopedic cases. In addition, she is passionate about rescue and shelter work, having volunteered at animal shelters and rescues since she was a teenager. During her rotating internship, she pursued additional training in High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter Surgery with SNP LA (now called CAMP) and has continued working with CAMP throughout her residency.

When she is not working, Dr. Kim enjoys watching sports and motorcycle racing, DIY and hands-on projects, and finding any excuse to be outdoors. Her favorite activity is quality time with her husband, and her rescue dog and cat - Zig and Calvin.
