Dr. Michael Levenson joined SAGE San Francisco as the medical director in early 2022. He has overseen the transition of the historic 600 Alabama Street emergency and specialty center into the SAGE chapter, bringing unparalleled and consistent veterinary care to the pets and people of San Francisco. 

Prior to joining SAGE, Mike served as an emergency and senior surgery associate doctor at a busy specialty hospital in Marin County. His roles have spanned emergency medicine, critical care, advanced surgery, and the implementation of clinical trials. He brings a calm and collected energy to serve patients and colleagues, a passion for growing and nurturing teams, and an unrelenting vision for excellence. He obtained his VMD at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by two-year-long postgraduate internships at the Friendship Hospital for Animals, a VECCS level 1 trauma center in his hometown of Washington, D.C.

Outside of the clinic, Mike is an avid downhill skier, yoga and meditation practitioner, road cyclist, bread baker, vegan cook, and gardener. He lives a short distance from the hospital in the city with his family and their calico cat, Juniper.
