Dr. Marcos Llavona grew up in Puerto Rico and graduated with a degree in general science from the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras. He attended Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2011. Dr. Llavona then completed a 1-year rotating internship at the Veterinary Specialty Center in Tucson, Arizona. He further pursued his passion for surgery with a specialty internship at the Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Dr. Llavona continued his surgical training with a 3-year small animal surgery residency at the MedVet Medical & Cancer Center for Pets in Cincinnati, Ohio which he completed in 2016. New York City became his home and professional base until he joined SAGE Centers in 2024.
Dr. Llavona's professional interests include all aspects of veterinary surgery including soft tissue, orthopedic, oncologic, and neurologic surgery. He enjoys implementing minimally invasive techniques, such as arthroscopy and laparoscopy, in both the investigation and treatment of orthopedic and soft tissue disease processes. Dr. Llavona believes in the incorporation of physical rehabilitation in the post-operative care of joint surgery and fracture repair.
Outside of work, Marcos enjoys hiking, traveling, music, and is an avid sports fan. When he is not visiting art galleries or trying out new restaurants, you can find him playing golf or tennis. He is excited to be a San Francisco resident and cannot wait for this adventure to unfold!
