Dr. Rory Applegate started her veterinary career early in life while living in the Midwest and volunteering at her local zoo. She expanded these experiences as an undergrad and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology at Auburn University in Auburn, AL in 2004. She volunteered at the local animal shelter and was an active member and leader of the University’s Pre Vet club. She was later accepted to the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and had a concurrent position in the University Veterinary Emergency Clinic. Soon after, she traveled to the University of Wisconsin, where she spent a year interning at the College of Veterinary Medicine, and then to the University of Tennessee where she worked as an Internal Medicine resident in the school’s small animal clinic.

Rory has presented at veterinary school extracurricular events, courses, and veterinary conferences on topics that include antibiotic use, endocrine diseases, heartworm disease, adrenal gland disease, and proteinuria, or protein in the urine.

There are many aspects of the Internal Medicine specialty that interest Rory, including the opportunity to manage issues like diabetes and kidney disease, and thus maintain close, long term relationships with pets and their families.

In her free time Rory likes to hike with her family, including her mixed breed dog Bindi. She also enjoys traveling, spending time in independent bookstores, and trying her hand at new craft projects.
