Dr. Micki McCabe can’t remember when she didn’t want to be a veterinarian.

She attended UC Davis for a degree in Zoology with a French minor, and later earned her DVM there.

After veterinary school, she traveled to New York City and interned at the Animal Medical Center, returning to her alma mater for a residency in internal medicine.
Micki worked as an internal medicine specialist for years and eventually developed an interest in merging eastern and western veterinary medicine in her practice.
She received her Certificate of Veterinary Acupuncture (CVA) from the Chi Institute in Florida in 2008, after which she studied TCM approaches to food therapy and massage techniques (Tui Na). She has also completed advanced coursework in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine through IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society), CIVT (College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies), and the Chi Institute.

Micki’s expertise in both eastern and western veterinary medicine shapes the way she cares for each of her patients. She has experienced firsthand how integrating these distinct disciplines can provide hope and positive results to so many. Dr. McCabe also spearheaded SAGE’s commitment to sustainability, helping SAGE become the first certified “green” veterinary practice in Contra Costa County.

When not practicing, Micki enjoys horseback riding, traveling, telemark skiing, hiking, and yoga. She is the proud mom of two grown daughters, and is married to Dr. Chuck Walls, an immensely talented SAGE veterinary surgeon (and a great cook)! Her family shares a home with Delilah the pug, Theo the Chihuahua, Maisy the terrier, and Frankie and Daisy, the two cats. Micki also enjoys spending time with the family’s two horses, Flicka and Cache.
