One day, a few weeks before his 10th birthday, Kooky started whimpering. This spunky little dog didn’t stop eating, going on walks or barking at birds, but just made little squeaking noises and pawed at his human. Dr. Sarah Hughes at the Campbell location diagnosed him with “severe mitral regurgitation due to degenerative valve disease” – he had a lot of fluids accumulated in his lungs and a severely enlarged heart due to congestive heart failure. There was a funny moment when the doctor looked at Kooky and looked visibly surprised. She said she had never seen a dog with such advanced CHF that was so alert!
Since then Kooky has transferred to Redwood City and was careful to choose a doctor with the same first name – Dr. Sarah Silverman. His medications have not only helped control but have also reversed some of the symptoms! Since his treatment has been effective, Kooky has been able to resume his globetrotting life and has visited Austin, New York (a few times), Portland, Mendocino, Las Vegas (too many times), Seattle, Miami, Key West and most recently Indianapolis. Here’s to many more years of travel!
