SAGE Veterinary Centers Statement: Employees Known with COVID-19

We confirmed this week that SAGE Centers has cases of COVID-19 positive team members. The COVID-19 positive team members have isolated themselves to prevent potential spread of infection and, in accordance with CDC and local health agency guidelines, all potentially exposed persons were also notified.

Consistent with our emergency response plans in place, after clearing the building of patients and team, we conducted a thorough, certified cleaning of the entire facility. This cleaning was performed by a third-party company that specializes in the removal of biohazards and far exceeds current Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations.  We maintain safety and cleaning protocols in place for the protection of our team members and clients, such as closed facilities, transfer of patients in the parking lot and other measures that meet or exceed recommended guidelines.  As a designated essential service, we remain open following the cleaning process and with our other measures in place in order to continue safely serving the needs of our patients and communities.

Our people are our greatest asset at SAGE, and they have been tremendous partners with continued collaboration and engagement on the policies and procedures implemented during this unprecedented time.”

“According to the CDC, there is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19 or that they might be a source of infection in the United States at this time,” said Julie Smith, Chief Strategy Officer. “One of the largest veterinary laboratories in the United States, IDEXX, developed a blood test for COVID-19 that could be used in animals and reported that in over 4,000 animals that were tested, there were no reported positives.  Our SAGE teams are working hard to help pets in our communities stay with their families while we all Shelter in Place.”
