Dr. Tess Smith attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where she earned an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Then she was off to veterinary school, and soon after developed an interest in neurology while completing a research project involving glial cells—the building blocks of the brain and nervous system. Tess recently completed a rotating internship across several veterinary disciplines at the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

Tess joined SAGE in July 2017 to begin a one-year specialty internship in neurology. She will be working closely with Dr. Starr Cameron, BVetMed, DACVIM (Neurology). Tess will also provide support to the emergency department for any emergent neuro cases that come in. After her tenure with SAGE, Tess looks forward to completing a residency in neurology and neurosurgery.

In her free time, Tess enjoys spending time with her black cat named Norman and hiking with her dog, a Flat-coated Retriever named Jett. She also enjoys baking with chocolate and playing the viola.
